Overview:
The Design Head will be responsible for overseeing and leading the design department in the development of innovative, cost-effective, and regulatory-compliant bus body designs. The role entails ensuring that all design deliverables align with customer requirements, industry standards, and the company’s strategic objectives. The individual will collaborate closely with production, procurement, sales, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of design solutions into manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the design team to create high-quality, innovative, and functional bus body designs that meet customer specifications.
• Develop and maintain design standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure efficiency and consistency in designs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and marketing, to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with business goals.
• Oversee the entire design process from concept to prototype to final production, ensuring timely delivery of design outputs.
• Conduct technical reviews and validations of design proposals, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., safety, emission standards, etc.).
• Develop product roadmaps, assess customer feedback, and refine designs for continuous improvement.
• Manage design-related budgets, resources, and timelines, ensuring the team is equipped to meet project deadlines.
• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and efficiency within the design team.
• Ensure effective communication with customers to understand their needs and provide design solutions accordingly.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in materials to incorporate into the company’s design strategy.
• Develop and maintain a robust database of design data, drawings, and revisions to ensure historical and ongoing accuracy.

• Ensure that design solutions contribute to reducing overall production costs without compromising quality. • Optimize material usage, sourcing, and manufacturing processes through design.

5. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
• Foster innovation within the team and continually look for ways to improve design processes and outputs. • Drive initiatives that lead to improved bus body designs and enhanced manufacturing efficiency.

6. Customer Satisfaction:
• Ensure designs meet customer specifications and provide high levels of satisfaction, measured through feedback and repeat business.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

1. Design Quality:
• % of designs approved without revision: Measure of how often the first design submission is approved without needing major revisions.
• Number of defects related to design during production: Track and reduce the number of production delays or defects attributed to design flaws.

2. On-Time Delivery:
• % of design projects completed on or before the deadline: Ensure design projects are completed within the agreed timeline to keep production schedules intact.

3. Cost Efficiency:
• % of cost reduction from new design implementations: Track savings generated by design innovations, material reductions, or optimized processes.
• Material cost per design: Monitor material costs associated with each design and aim to keep costs within budget.

4. Customer Satisfaction:
• Customer satisfaction score on design (through feedback surveys): Measure customer satisfaction with design solutions through post-delivery feedback.
• % of repeat business tied to design performance: Track how often design quality leads to repeat business.

5. Innovation:
• Number of new features/innovations introduced annually: Encourage and measure innovation through the introduction of new bus features or materials.
• Adoption of new technologies/materials: Track the implementation of new technologies or materials in bus body designs.

• % of designs meeting regulatory standards without rework: Ensure compliance with safety, emission, and other regulatory standards without significant rework or redesign.

Team collaboration index: Use feedback from other departments (production, procurement, etc.) to gauge the effectiveness of cross-functional collaboration.
• % of production and procurement issues resolved due to proactive design input: Measure how well the design team pre-emptively resolves potential production challenges.

8. Design Efficiency:
• Average design time per project: Monitor and aim to reduce the average time taken to deliver a complete design package.
• Number of projects delivered per year: Track overall design department productivity in terms of completed projects.

9. Team Leadership and Development:
• Employee engagement and retention within the design team: Measure the satisfaction and retention rates of team members.
• % of team members upskilled or trained in new technologies: Ensure continuous professional development within the design team.

Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in design, preferably in the automotive or bus manufacturing industry.
• Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of bus body regulations, safety standards, and industry trends.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Strong project management capabilities with a proven track record of delivering results.
• Creative mindset with a focus on innovation and process improvement.
